Conch Republic Cup’s 8th edition has scheduled a nine day event that includes 3 cities in Cuba as well as the United States. With three distance races as well as two inshore races planned, the contest commences when fifty-five entrants begin on 28th January, in the Key West, Florida, for the 96 nautical miles course throughout the Florida Straits to Cuba. The meet is being sponsored by the Club Nautico International Hemingway De Cuba as well as the Key West Yacht Club.
For the very first time in the history of the meet, Commodore Jose Escrich of Club Nautico International Hemingway De Cuba projects to attend the race start in South West Channel off Key West, leaving his Yacht Rental Greece company to do so. This would be the very first time that Commodore has been in United States for the start of this type of race. There would be 5 starts for the 5 separate classes that include two racing mono hull classes, multi hulls, a schooner class and cruising class.
Commodore Escrich has also requested Cuban Ministry Of the Interior on behalf of many Cuban-born American citizens who wish to take part in Conch Republic Cup. This would mark the very first time in the past ten years that a Cuban-born American has been able to enter their house country by yacht. Three of these people would be journeying aboard their own boats when many more will crew on the boats of others.
