The Resolute Cup is a Corinthian Championship conducted for the US yacht clubs. At this year’s event, there are a total of 11 new yacht clubs taking part in the Resolute Cup. The main talking point of the event is the participation of the New York Yacht Club for the very first time in this regatta event. The most surprising thing is that this event is hosted every other year in the Harbor Court clubhouse in New York, but so far the New York Yacht club has not taken part in the event.
The Resolute Cup will take place between 12th and 17th September and this popular US qualifying series has been running successfully since its creation in 2010. This is one of the races that will provide a pathway to many of the yacht clubs in the United States to take part in the Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup.
There were plenty of New York Yacht club members who expressed their interest in sailing for the club during the regatta. The club decided to pick an all-star sailing crew involving Scottish Bareboat Charter skipper Drew Wierda and racers Colin smith and Garrett Woodworth to represent the club.
Drew said that his love for Newport was the main reason for him to say ‘yes’ to lead the New York Yacht Club racing team. He also loves the club and Melges 20. He is pretty much aware of the sailors that will be taking part in the competition and is really excited about the high level of competition that he and his team will endure during the event.
There are 28 yacht clubs competing in the event and they will be divided into 2 groups for the qualifying rounds. Seven races will be conducted in a Sonar and five in the Melges 20.
